Teen Summer Camps continued — Counselor In Training

RC AERONAUTICS 1 Age: 13-15 yrs. Attention campers here's your chance to build and fly your very own remote-controlled airplane! If you’re interested in airplanes, electronics, and building, then say no more! Learn how to construct an aircraft out of some household materials, hot glue, wires, and sophisticated electronics. Safely prepare for takeoff using a fun, software-based RC flight simulator. Then later, take control of your own newly constructed aircraft using a transmitter you programmed to get flying outside and above the trees. Gain the necessary entry level skills to fly, repair, and rebuild. With staff supervision, campers will be using hot glue guns and sharp knives to construct their aircraft. And at the end, campers will take home what they’ve built... or crashed. Do you Teen Corps Age: 14-16 yrs. Attention teens! If you need community service hours for school or just enjoy giving back to your community this is the camp for you. Teen Corps will provide an opportunity to serve the community while you have fun and develop as a leader. Part of the week will also be focused on team building and leadership development to prepare for a week of service. Service opportunities will be both fun and challenging and strategically serve other youth and teens, the elderly and the environment. Participants should bring two snacks and a lunch daily.. Teens Outdoors & Occupied! is designed to expose teenagers to local outdoor activities available at nature and state parks. Activities are generally always on the go and may include paddling, climbing, cycling, hiking and more across Raleigh and neighboring cities. Leadership and life skills components are implemented to enhance this outdoor experience. Sign-In/Drop off is from 8:00am-8:30am and Pick-Up/Sign-Out is from 5:00pm-5:30pm. Please be on time as fieldtrips may depart as early as 9:00am. Participants should bring a lunch, two snacks, sunscreen and a reusable water bottle each day. Explore Wilkerson Nature Preserve with a week of indoor and outdoor activities in nature. Learn about the Preserve's habitats and wildlife through hands-on labs and field experiences in forests, streams, and rocky outcrops. Become a Citizen Scientist as we observe and collect data about the natural world around us. Participants should bring a lunch and two snacks each day and arrive wearing closed-toed shoes. Program hours are 9:00am-4:30pm. A.L. Wilkerson Nature Preserve Jul 17-Jul 21 M-F 8:30am-5:00pm Fee: $201

Age: 14-16 yrs. Participants will receive information, training and experiences to prepare for positions as junior counselors and counselors in various youth-serving organizations. Team-building, role playing and hands-on application will highlight a week of fun and personal growth. A higher level of maturity is a must for participants. Participants who successfully complete the week’s camp activities will be required to volunteer with one of Raleigh Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department’s summer camps for one additional weeks. There is an application and interview process with this camp. Participants will volunteer 40 hours during one of the following weeks: June 20-23, June 26-30, July 10-14, July 17-21, July 24-28, July 31-August 4, August 7-11, August 14-18, or August 21-25.
