of Raleigh policy, exempt employees who are not eligible to receive overtime pay or compensatory time need only indicate the dates that they worked and, unless specifically instructed to do so, need not track their actual hours worked. 6.2 Employees shall accurately report to their supervisors in any form the supervisor directs all time taken off during the work week or work cycle such as petty leave, vacation, sick leave, compensatory time, or leave without pay.

6.3 Employees shall immediately report to their supervisors any errors or discrepancies in the City's records of their hours worked or in their compensation.

6.4 Non-exempt employees and exempt employees in pay grade 35 and below shall not work beyond their scheduled hours without express permission from their supervisors. Department Heads may require exempt employees in grades 36 and above to request prior approval to work overtime. 6.5 Paid overtime work throughout the City shall, except in the case of an emergency, be performed only with the prior authorization of the City Manager. Exceptions are listed in 6.5.1 and 6.5.2 below. 6.5.1 Field Department Heads (Police, Fire, Public Works, Public Utilities and Parks and Recreation) can approve overtime up to $2000/month, subject to budgetary limits. 6.5.2 The Department Heads in Inspections, Finance and Information Technology can approve overtime up to $500/month, subject to budgetary limits. 6.6 In emergencies where prior authorization cannot be obtained, the department shall request approval from the City Manager to pay overtime within five (5) days at the end of the pay period/cycle in which the overtime occurred. 6.7 The City Manager's authorization is not required for offset time. In all cases, the scheduling of offset time within the same work week or work cycle in which it is earned is the supervisor's responsibility, subject to the Department Head's approval.

6.8 Non-recurrent overtime work or unscheduled work of less than 6 minutes duration will not be credited.

6.9 Supervisors shall not allow non-exempt employees to work beyond their hours scheduled in a work week or work period without ensuring that the employee receives offset time or receives compensatory time or pay for unscheduled work or overtime work. Supervisors should ensure that exempt employees who are eligible to receive overtime payor compensatory time for unscheduled work and
