Severance FA’s
Severance - Lock Meter for Non-Payment

Check Register face for size and type. Verify the meter/ register compatibility Read the register Utilities Technician will verify meter lid is free of obstruction and meter box is cleaned out providing clear access to the meter. Disconnect the water service at the meter. A lock out seal will be used to lock the angle valve, bullet lock if applicable. Wrap around Angle Valve if no loops available The Utilities Technician will then leave a door-hanger (tag) notifying the customer of the disconnection of service. Use the meter wrench to loosen the house side spud nut, to create usage for flow check If the register sweep hand does not move or the leak indicator does not show movement or the numbers show no progressive movement, the meter is stopped and must be replaced. Notify the customer that the water service will be temporarily interrupted Turn the water service off at the angle valve Replace the meter, gaskets and antenna Verify the flow arrow on the meter points to the house side spud nut Verify meter lid is clean and clear of obstruction Restore water service at the angle valve and notify customer the water is restored

Leak Investigation
Leak Investigation
Check FA portal in CC&B

Identify if the property is public or privately owned using PUMA
Determine if the leak is a water or sewer leak
If sewage, immediately contact the supervisor, who will contact the Sewer Division
If Water:
Check and compare meter number and or Meter Interface Unit(MIU) number (FA Portal)
Check Register face for size and type
Verify the meter/ register compatibility
Read the register
Verify the service is on/off by the direction of the angle valve
If the service is off and leaking, see area below for Leak Responsibility (Utility) If the meter shows usage, check for leaking washers and verify spud nuts are tightened
If leaks continue, dig down to copper setter nut
Tighten the copper setter nut or replace copper setter if necessary
If washers, spuds or copper setter are not leaking but the meter continues to show usage, contact the customer to see if water is running inside the premise. If unable to contact the customer on site, leave a door hanger indicating the meter was checked and close the FA.
No Leak: If the meter shows no usage, the copper setter is not leaking on the street side nut and no leak is found in the waterline to the copper setter, get readings and close the FA with notes indicating no leak found.
Leak responsibility The leak will be repaired if it exists in the utilities area of responsibility.
If utility equipment caused the leak, attempt to repair. Notify supervisor to advise CC&B for appropriate adjustments and or Water Distribution for leaks in their area of responsibility. A door hanger will be left to inform customer of leaking utilities. If the leak is found on the customers side, leave a door hanger to inform them of the leak. If the meter continues to leak and the customer is unable to be reached, contact supervision for instructions on how to proceed.
