LOCATES PROGRAM UTILITIES SPECIALIST, SENIOR

SUMMARY: This class is the fifth level in a ten-level Utilities Series devoted to providing op- erational, technical and maintenance support for the City’s water distribution system. Incumbents lead technical and specialized skilled work, while perform- ing the most complex tasks. Work may include planning and scheduling daily work tasks for crews; investigating customer concerns; participating in hiring and performance evaluations; and performing the most complex work assigned to the unit. As assigned, incumbents may serve as lead workers, assigning work and monitoring work completion.  Plans, prioritizes, schedules, coordinates and performs technical and special- ized skilled work in providing operational, technical and maintenance sup- port for the City’s water distribution system.  May serve as lead worker by assigning work and monitoring work comple- tion.  May participate in hiring activities and performance evaluations.  Supervises a repair on-call crew on a rotating call schedule.  Conducts field audits for locate compliance.  Evaluates locates tickets and assigns work.  Collects data for projects, ticket counts, damage research, critical infrastruc- ture.  Sets up jobs and responds to contractors excavating around critical infra- structure.  Assists locators and may be required to fill in for a vacant locate position.  Manage inventory on service trucks and repair trailers.  Monitors and ensures safe working conditions and environment; identifies potential hazards and initiates or coordinates corrective action to maintain safety; ensures availability, maintenance and operability of safety and work- related equipment; monitors processes and activities to assure quality.  Meets and communicates with contractors, design professionals and other stakeholders regarding construction or special projects; reads and interprets maps, charts and technical drawings; performs or oversees utility locates; provides operational support in the coordination of project work.  Prepares, maintains and/or reviews reports, data, forms, permits, and/or code enforcement investigations; monitors, tracks and maintains inventory levels; initiates ordering to replenish supply levels or purchase new items.  Responds to inquiries, complaints, issues and information requests from in- ternal and external customers; addresses and resolves problems and com- plaints; monitors compliance with applicable regulations, standards, policies and procedures.  Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
