Congresswoman Ross Tours EM Johnson WTP for PFAS Awareness Week

On June 5th, Congresswoman Deborah Ross and NCDEQ Secretary Elizabeth Biser visited with Raleigh Water Director Whit Wheeler, Assistant Director Ed Buchan, WTP Division Manager Chris Phelps, and Operations Superintendent Mike Hughes at the EM Johnson Water Treatment Plant. Discussion included PFAS treatment challenges, overall utility infrastructure needs and the benefits of a permanent water and sewer utility assistance program. One current construction project going on at EMJ involves the expansion of a powder activated carbon treatment program that removes PFAS from the water.
